Hands on Practical workshop on Solar PV Systems


Institute of Solar Technology orginazi by Shyamsundar Child and Women Development Society is a support NGO working on environmental issues through awareness building campaigns, training, consulting, research & development as well as networking to create the synergistic effect to popularize renewable sources of energy, rainwater harvesting, waste management, recycling and tree planting. Shyamsundar Child and Women Development Society is run by individuals from diverse background with strong commitment to stopping global warming through the propagation of renewable energy.

Institute of Solar Technology is the premiere organization to offer comprehensive practical training in solar photovoltaic system at grassroots level in India. The ultimate goal of Institute of Solar Technology is to stop climate change and to reverse it. To accomplish its goal Institute of Solar Technology has a mission to create energy self sufficiency and security through the use of renewable sources of energy. To realize the mission Institute of Solar Technology runs awareness campaigns on the need for environmental conservation and imparts skills through various training programmes in renewable energy & green technologies.

The salient features of the 2 days Solar Workshop:
· Practical oriented training programme using models
· Conducted by experienced solar integrator and engineers with vast experience
· Comprehensive training program dealing with the latest technology in the industry
· Presentations from Solar Products Manufacturers and possibility to take up dealership and distributorship
opportunity in your area
· Field visit to off grid & grid tied Solar PV installations
· Opportunity to participate in advance certificate program in Solar Energy

Course Fees*: INR 2,500/-

Programme Outline : 

Day -1 (Sat day, January 4 th , 2013)  
Review of solar PV technology, system design concepts.
Time: 9.30 am to 5.30 PM

1. Introductions:
2. Review of types of solar power systems and major system components, introduction to off grid/stand alone systems; different components in the system (inverts, battery etc);
3. Components used for plant, electrical and mechanical properties, design of PV modules, mounting structures, batteries and charge controllers (only for stand alone systems), string combiner box, inverts, power system monitoring, protection equipment.
4. Practical sessions: integrating PV System using models
5. system sizing, wire sizing, design for fuse and ground, load calculations, design of batteries, inverter sizing and charge controllers characterization.
6. Understanding of solar orientation, solar path, azimuth, tracking etc

Day – 2 (Sunday, January 5th, 2014) 
Solar products, business opportunities and government policies.
Time: 9.30 am to 5.30 PM

1. Presentation on PV Modules and opportunities by the manufacturer
2. Business opportunity to take up associate, dealership or distributorship for solar components & products
3. Solar batteries, Cables, Main/Array Junction Box and other Balance Of System (BOS)

Day-3 (Sunday, January 12th, 2014) 
Solar Tour – OPTIONAL on cost sharing with participants.
Cost: approximately INR 500 per participant to be paid at the time of workshop.
Pick up & drop off time: 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Pick up and drop off point – Institute of Solar Technology, Panchla, Howrah,
Visit to Solar Power installations to understand grid tied & Off grid power generation .

Award of Certificate
On successful completion of the workshop, participants will be awarded Certification in Hands on Practical workshop on Solar PV Systems. Successful completion will be measured based on the following:
  • Class Participation/Attendance (20%)
  • Assignments (40%)
  • Group Work (20%)
  • Final Examination (20%)

A minimum of 75% credit is required to award certificate.
